Martin Scorsese earned his first Cosmo nomination in 2002 for Gangs of New York, but lost to Rob Marshall's directorial debut for Chicago. He finally won in 2004 for The Aviator, also joining Peter Jackson as the only people to be nominated more than once for a Best Director Cosmo.
