At the first annual Cosmique Movie Awards, the first Matrix film was awarded Best Visual Effects of All Time, and the film was nominated for Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Film of All Time (losing to Brazil). (A small contingent also lobbied to nominate it for Most Over-Rated Movie of All Time, but the category only existed for actors, not films.)

So when it was first announced that there would be not one but two sequels released in 2003, early buzz suggested that The Return of the King might have some competition. Of course, that was before anyone actually saw them. The Matrix: Reloaded ended up receiving only four nominations, two of them negative, and The Matrix: Revolutions failed to drag enough voters to the theater to even bother nominating it for anything.

Reviews from Cosmo Voters:

I tried to watch this movie, I really did. I can honestly say that it was the only 2003 film I watched that I had to turn off (fortunately, I saw it on DVD). I even managed to sit through all of "From Justin to Kelly," so that says a lot about what I'm willing to endure. I know this film has its admirers (somewhere), but I confess I'm not one of them.

    My grade: D -
